The United Nations says that one of its international peacekeepers in Haiti has been killed in an attack.
A statement from the U.N. Security Council says the slain peacekeeper was from Chile. It did not identify him or provide specifics on the incident other than to say it was a April 13 attack on a vehicle of the U.N. stabilization mission.
Colombia's news channel NTN24 is reporting that Chile's defense ministry says the peacekeeper was fatally shot in a northeast area by Haiti's border with the Dominican Republic. He was helping to provide security during a demonstration when the U.N. vehicle was fired upon.
The U.N. Security Council says its members await a ``comprehensive investigation to determine the facts and circumstances of the incident.''
