A Haitian-American family in Philadelphia is getting text messages from their uncle in Delmas who is seeking relief aid at the Diatsu dealership there. They have posted an appeal at CNN.com

South Boston native and author Michael Patrick MacDonald writes on January 14 at 3:13 a.m. that he has "just found out a dear friend is alive yet buried under a collapsed hotel in Jacmel."
"If anyone has contact with efforts in Jacmel, my friend Flo McGarrell is alive (last I heard) yet trapped below the Hotel "Peace of Mind" 777 Rue Meyer. Her elderly mother and father are dear friends, Ann McGarrell and Jim McGarrell of Vt."
(Michael has since reported that his friend Flo has passed away.)
